Threat Overview
HPE published bulletin HPESBNW05162 on 22 October 2026 covering 72 ArubaOS vulnerabilities, including eight rated CVSS 10.0 (CVE-2026-79844 through CVE-2026-79851). The issues span authentication bypass, command injection, SQL injection and buffer overflows in AOS-8 and AOS-10 wireless infrastructure. HPE reported no known public exploit code or in-the-wild exploitation as of the bulletin. Exact exploit requests and signatures were not disclosed, so the hunts focus on management-plane exposure, authentication anomalies and device behavior rather than claiming CVE-specific packet signatures.

Impacted Systems
Vendor/product: HPE Aruba Networking AOS-8 and AOS-10 on Mobility Conductors, Mobility Controllers, Mobility Gateways, AOS-10 access points and AOS-8 Instant access points, physical or virtual as applicable. Affected branches: AOS-10 10.8.1.1 and earlier in 10.8, 10.7.2.6 and earlier in 10.7, 10.4.1.13 and earlier in 10.4; AOS-8 8.13.3.0 and earlier in 8.13, 8.10.0.23 and earlier in 8.10. Other older/end-of-maintenance branches require vendor validation and migration. Fixed: 10.8.1.2, 10.7.2.7, 10.4.1.14, 8.13.3.1, 8.10.0.24 or later in the applicable branch. Prerequisites/exposure: attacker network access to vulnerable management/control services; exact exploit prerequisites vary by CVE. Management interface exposure and reachable PAPI control-plane services increase risk. Unaffected: other HPE Networking product families are not included in this advisory.
Why this matters
Wireless controllers and gateways are high-impact management-plane infrastructure. Authentication bypass and RCE could affect enterprise network availability and segmentation if exploitable.
Exploitation Status
Vendor-confirmed: HPE published 72 fixes and reports no known public exploit or active exploitation at publication (2026-10-22). Researcher assessment: exposed management interfaces are the most urgent risk. Not confirmed: exploit payloads, malicious IPs, victim compromises, and specific detection signatures.
What this hunt looks for
This package defines searches for Microsoft Sentinel network/security logs (CommonSecurityLog), forwarded AOS device syslog (Syslog), and flow metadata where collected. All management-IP-dependent hunts intentionally fail closed until the customer’s verified AOS management IP inventory is inserted. No Aruba device configuration or software version is verifiable from generic network traffic alone. No customer logs were reviewed or queried during preparation; the sections below describe what would be reviewed where the relevant data source is ingested into Microsoft Sentinel.
Required logs
CommonSecurityLog; Syslog; Syslog + CommonSecurityLog
Hunt 01 — Allowed Management Connections from Non-Approved Sources
Signal: High. Telemetry: CommonSecurityLog. Target verified management IPs and exclude approved source IPs; fails closed until inventory populated.

Hunt 02 — Denied Management-Plane Probing
Signal: Follow-up. Telemetry: CommonSecurityLog. Multiple distinct denied source/port attempts against verified AOS management addresses.

Detection Notes
The highest-signal hunt is unauthorized allowed access to confirmed management IPs from outside approved admin subnets, followed by rare administrative-source changes and device syslog configuration/privilege events. The KQL does not claim a vulnerability-specific exploit signature. Use known AOS management IPs and approved source CIDRs. A firewall action of Allow only shows permitted traffic, not authenticated access. Syslog message patterns depend on device forwarding and formatting. If management traffic does not traverse an ingested sensor or AOS syslog is not forwarded, no conclusion is possible.
